Basic question for you clustering guru's out there. I am looking to build out a staging environment for a fairly important production environment. I have been asked if it would be ok to duplicate our physical clustered environment into a virtualized environment. Keep in mind this new staging environment is for QA testing. I have heard that typically for QA you want a like for like environment so that makes me want to argue that if we are physical in production, we should be phsyical in QA/Staging.
What I need help on is to know if there is a reason other than "because" for why QA/Staging would need to be physical. What components are different, or what acts differently virtual verses physical? I can still test failover clustering, simulate driver failures, network failures, etc.
Any advise on input is appreciated. Environment is Windows Server 2008R2 Enterprise, SQL 2008 R2 Enterprise
